PREVIOUS EMPLOYMENT

American University
of Beirut, Beirut, Lebanon. Mathematics Department, 1957-1987, including 4 years as department chair. In 1987 resigned position as Professor of Statistics with tenure and left Lebanon on account of the continuing civil war in that country.

Academic activities included: teaching graduate and undergraduate courses, curriculum development, university-wide consulting, and research.


PUBLICATIONS

These include papers in Psychometrika (1959, 1960), JASA (1968), Technometrics (1976), Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences(1987), and a Wiley (1982) book on Biomedical Statistics with Computing.

PROFESSIONAL SOCIETIES

International Statistical Institute, elected in 1973.

  • Served on a number of committees and on Council.
  • Charted the course of the ISI Committee on Women in Statistics as its first chair (1995-99), established world-wide contacts to promote its activities, designed and maintained its website until 2001.


International Association for Statistical Education.

  • Initiated the drive to establish this association and served on its first executive committee, 1991-93


American Statistical Association

  • Served on a number of committees.
  • Prepared proposal for establishing a volunteer program for U.S. statisticians to provide assistance to institutions in developing countries.
